How to Prepare for Your CliftonStrengths Assessment and Next Steps

CliftonStrengths is an online talent assessment (formerly known as StrengthsFinder) that has been taken by 31 million people in the world (as of November 2023). The assessment is a fantastic shorthand to finding out what you naturally do best and use that awareness to develop your greatest talents into strengths. Our best potential for success — in our purpose, career, happiness, performance, or people management — lies in our talents and when productively applied, you can be 6x more engaged at work, 6x to do what you do best every day, and 6x to report having a higher quality of life. Because our talents are so innately in us, it can be difficult to pinpoint and that is where the CliftonStrengths assessment come in.

Tips for Taking Your CliftonStrengths Assessment

The CliftonStrengths assessment is offered online and here’s a summary for your assessment preparation:

  • The assessment measures your talents — your natural patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving — and categorises them into 34 CliftonStrengths talent themes.

  • The assessment takes approximately 35 minutes (but that’s not the time limit). I recommend that you set aside one hour of uninterrupted time — whether by people, phone, technology or pets.

  • There are 33 available languages for you to take the assessment in.

  • There are 177 questions paired questions: choose the one that best describes you.

  • You are given 20 seconds to answer each question. Don’t overthink it – choose the first answer that comes to you. If you take more than 20 seconds to answer, the assessment will move on to the next question. There’s no “back” button and the algorithm can’t assign a talent to any unanswered questions.

  • If you answer any question with “Neutral”, the assessment won’t be able to assign a talent. Choose neutral only if you absolutely have to. If you answer too many neutrals, the system will prompt you.

Purchasing the CliftonStrengths Assessment

There are a few ways you can purchase the assessment:

  • Directly from Gallup

  • Directly from us. The advantages are

    • We can assign you more resources from Gallup Access.

    • We can collate your report with others (for e.g. your colleagues, friends, or family) who have also taken the CliftonStrengths assessment into a Team Grid.

    • We can offer bulk or discretionary discount for corporate clients or workshop clients.

Receive the Invitation Email to Take the CliftonStrengths Assessment

If you or your company have purchased the CliftonStrengths assessment(s) from us, you will receive an email with subject, “Gallup's CliftonStrengths Assessment is Now Available!”. Click the “Get Started” button to set up a Gallup Access account and following that, you will be able to start the assessment in the language of your choice. In the unlikely event that you didn’t get the email, please contact us immediately and and we will fix it.
